Does any one think that a Cross Over vehicle looks like a mini van and a station wagon mixed together? What is it? And why are they so popular? And why are they such a mom car!

Full-size SUVs are usually built like light trucks, with true 4x4 low-range-gearing off-road capability and the suspension to handle it.

A Crossover is a smaller SUV that is built on passenger car drivetrain, suspension and chassis (i.e. a cross between a passenger car and an SUV), usually a single-piece unibody construction (no underframe), where the unibody provides the structural integrity and rigidity.

Crossovers are usually not meant for real off-road use, but for more fuel-efficient pavement use than full truck-like SUVs. That is why most crossovers are 2-wheel-drive or high-range All-wheel-drive only, with a passenger-car-like suspension-- They usually do not have a transfer case for low-range 4WD for rough terrain use, which full SUVs have.

Cross-Overs are very popular.
Think of them as an SUV Lite.
They still have lots of utility, but drive more like a car.
Better gas mileage that a SUV, or a mini-van too

Actually, by definition, a "cross over" vehicle is any car that is built on a truck chassis. Usually they are built as van-like or "station wagon" vehicles which increase their "user-friendliness", by giving them increased interior room. I don't think they are "mom cars" at all ...besides, there's no such thing as a "mom's car" - any vehicle is equally apt to be driven by a man as well as a woman....Good luck!
