Not to say that just being a little corrupt is ok, but just looking at other countries that I've been in that are SO much more corrupt. For example, when I lived in Kenya, the police would block off the road with machine guns and expect a "toll" (read bribe) to go through. I know in this country there is some bribing for building permits and whatnot, but it doesn't seem as overt as it is in many other places in the world.
Do you think we'll eventually get to that point due to greed and moral depravity? Or will our own sense of justice and fairness prevail?

I've been to Spain. I've been to over 100 countries in my lifetime, so I'm pretty well versed in foreign travel.

There are corrupt politicians in all countries. Compared to most of the rest of the world the US would be considered a model citizen.

Where I live, we are in the middle of a situation with the generator that provides backup power to our apartment building. First off, if you have lived in Kenya, you know what it's like to have power cuts--well, here it is a lot hotter and when your fans don't work you really feel it, not to mention a/c is necessary for sleeping in the summer months. So, our generator has been broken since August, when it was extremely hot. The responsibility for this belongs to the owner of the building, who happens to be a son of the former president of the country. No appeals to this person have any effect. Despite the fact that he makes 2 million units of the local currency per month on the rent paid to him by the ministry of finance, for the apartment building. Much as I feel frustrated by conditions in the US, I don't think it is quite to the same point as in many other countries. Our personal situation is only a small example of how the big people enrich themselves off the little or helpless in many countries. My concern is that the US seems to be going in the same direction. The current ruling dynasty doesn't seem to have any problem with this way of doing business. If the Bush family owned my apartment I don't think the generator would be fixed any sooner.

Well comparing Kenya to the US is not a very valid comparison. Kenya does not have the population or GDP that the US has. We have different problems and different solutions. For instance, that guy Jefferson took lots of bribes. He put them in his freezer. They only found 80 or 90k in there. Duke Cunningham took bribes to a whole new level--the Air Force built him a house. In Kenya you have to pay the little guy a small bribe to get through a gate. In the US, you pay the big guys. There is just more regulation at the lower levels in the US although it is starting to change now which is good.

USA is not a corrupt country per se. But some of the attitudes in its foreign relations seem to point towards a corrupt government. Iraq - weapons of mass destruction - or OIL ? is an example. What is the reason why USA ALWAYS backs and finances Israel in its actions against neighbours ? (Rhetoric, we all know the answer)
Usually when corruption emerges, individuals stand up and fight it. Go Yanks, do it !

To render an honest opinion, based on my own experiences as an American and as a negotiator, I would have to say that we are the most corrupt nation in the entire world based on the number of innocent death that our government has brought about. Two million innocent people killed from 1991 to 2007.
In 1990, we negotiated Saddam's withdrawal. Saddam was not a threat to the world, nor to US and Western oil interest. The Bushco lied to get at Saddam and two million people died in the process. The millions of deaths that were attributed to Saddam amounted to a mere 13,000. CIA informants lied and we in the State Department knew about this!
So, therefore, I say based on my own actual experience that our government IS the worst of any current-day government administration.

Why do Americans still back a dictator with innocent blood on his hands? Further acts of the Bush administration, cover-ups, asking/hinting that his supporters back him by doing in all opposition at any cost (doing illegal acts and skirting the law to prevent Bush-co from being indicted). This kind of thing is currently happening, so why aren't Americans backing truth and punishing a guilty President and administration? Bush knows (and to himself admits) his guilt (otherwise he wouldn't be trying to get back at people)! Do you?

The only thing corrupt in this country are the citizens who believe this to be the case. Everything else is great, and this country Rocks.

Under the so called conservative republican rule of late, the US is far, far more corrupt than any nation in history.
It is a subtle and occult corruption, but it will lead to the complete and total downfall of the US in a decade or two.

I agree that corruption is rampant worldwide. Most of the corruption at the CIA and at the highest levels are not being covered by the media.
In other countries at the local level, the corruption is more obvious. At the highest levels of government in the US, money speaks.
