Its not the British that traditionally have a problem with the French, But the English, the Scots have had few problems, excluding fishing rights...... em,
A few hundred years ago the English had many battles with the French, and often the Scots at the same time. Before the joining of the crowns, under the act of union, The Scots had treaties with the French and the Russians.
The so called problem with the French stems from these times. I don't see a problem, but then i am a Scot

Don't be silly; the French and the English don't dislike each other! The love each other really. They just like to pretend they hate each other's guts. Look at the large number of French people who holiday in the UK and the Brits who move to Provence.

The thing about stereotypes is that people feel they have to at least try to live up to them.

I have never ever understood this silly "stereotype". I can't speak for the french people on their views of me as I have never met a french person and nor do they know me, however I have no reason to dislike them. How can I judge on someone I have no idea about and have never visited their country? I'm sure they are really nice people and have loads of interesting things bout them. Like every other country in the world, they all have interesting things about them. And that is a good generalisation to make :)

In view of the fact that the French were allies, and mutual dislike continued, I very much doubt it, unless we have a monarch of the stature of Edward VII, who made himself popular with them, for the first time in hundreds of years.

Bad spelling is also boring.

Yeah I know I was thinking that the other day. I am doing history and the french would do anything to make sure Britain are not doing well. Nothing has really changed and dont know y but i think it might be just a really long grudge towards each other.

I like their bread and cheese yum!

Non! It will never happen any more than the Brits or anyone else will ever stop hating US citizens.

Ze French hate everyone, even themselves!

Look at them in the face & and with the kindest smile you can muster, call them every disgusting word you can in English. Remember you have to do it with a smile on your face the entire time. I swear to you they will end up admiring you. Works like a charm!

EEF, non, just ignore zem....run awayyyyyyyyyy.

I don't dislike anyone..I am British, well I was born in England, and I have french friends. I hope we day we ALL learn to accept each other in peace and harmony. But is there really that much animosity between the two???

There's a long history of war between them, but since the British went to their aid in WWII, it must mean they are at least close allies. A little competition between the two countries is only a good thing, becuase it drives them to be better than the other in a non-militaristic way. Like sports.
