My father said, when I got married,``Never lift your hand to your wife, they have those long knives in the kitchen, and you have to sleep sometime.`` Seriously though, I never did, she was too good a woman for me to even think that way.

I love my wife far too much to do that. Even if I didn't, she does not present a challenge and I will not fight an opponent that cannot successfully fight back.
However, one should not capitalize on that knowledge.

I have known a woman who hit her husband regularly and he was too frightened to hit her back in case he really hurt her.
But there is no need for either men or women to hit one another.
