Me and my Husband have been TTC for about a year now with no success and I had gone to 2 different OB/GYNs and they both told me I am a good candidate for PCOS, one did the testing and said not all my results came back positive for PCOS and so technically I dont have it, but I havent had a period since June 07, and I went to my family dr, in November and she said she wanted to check my insulin level and see about putting me on Glucophage/Metformin to see if that would help get my periods to normal and getting me pregnant, and I want to know if just that will help or if I need to do Clomid with it, I am trying for my first and I just want some advise on Metformin and see if there are any positive results or if I am just getting my hopes up! Can some one out there help me?

I've read that Metformin helps a lot of women establish ovulation and regular periods. I, on the other hand have been on Metformin since July this year and it hasn't helped me get a period. I had an HSG done to see if my tube was open and it was .. so my doctor prescribed me Metformin along with Clomid. This is my first time on Clomid, and I'm on day 15 of my cycle, so I don't know the results as yet, but I have my fingers crossed. After a couple of months and you don't have any results with Metformin either your doctor will up the dosage, or prescribe Clomid, or both. I wish you luck!

Hi there - well I have PCOS. I have been on Metformin and they do tell you to becareful that it does increase your chances for concieving and if your not interested to go on birth control at the same time to prevent it. I was on it for almost 6 months and only once did I get a period naturally. My OB also put me on Prometuim to help get me regular. Metformin didnt work for me, but I have heard it helping a lot of women. If your really interested in concieving Id ask your ob for something more like clomid to really increase your chances. It seems like a lot of people I have spoken with really want it and soon, and OBS always want to get you regular first. I hate that. But no harm in asking. Id try with the clomid exp if they have considered you having PCOS.

Good luck and lots of ~*~*~*BABYDUST~*~*~*~

I am taking both Clomid and Metformin and haven't become pregnant yet...the operative word is YET, because I do believe the meds will work. My Dr provides MAJOR encouragement and I have heard success stories from others who had to take both drugs.

You should ask your Doc about taking provera to start your cycle by the way, because irregular periods can set you up to have endometrosis (thickening of the lining of the uterus) which is painful and UN-proactive to becoming pregnant.

It may help.
But the real solution would be to lose weight , exercise a little more and eat a sensible diet.

But if you don't care to do the above, then your Dr. puts you on drugs.
