The longest? Do you mean in games played, or the amount of time that passed between the 1st and 500th goal?

The first to do it was Maurice Richard, who I saw play at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in the 1940s. He took from 1942 until 1957 to score 500 times. His 15 years is likely among the longest.

Of course the "Original Six" teams played only a 50 game schedule, not the 82 games played today.
