Well. Sit down. I'm 45 and all of my life pretty much I never wanted to have children. I even told my OBGYN at 16 for my fiirst pap smear that I was never having children. I never wanted children because I had a hard enough time taking care of myself, and didn't think I would even BE a good mother. Plus, I didn't want children because I was afraid I would be a terrible mom like my mother. I did NOT want to turn into my mother. (issues). But fast forward to now. In 2001 I had to have a hysterectomy. And THEN I began to think about my choices and the past. The other day I had a doctor appointment, and saw all of these young mothers with their cute kids and I felt a pang of regret. NOW I wish I would have had children. Unless I were to adopt, there is no way I could have them now anyway. :o( Hope my story helps in some way.

I keep changing my mind. Too many people only have children for the sake of it, or because they think it's "cool" or "fun", so if I have kids I'd like it to be for the right reason. I think you should only have kids if you can offer them love and some financial security. I live in Berlin and I'm always seeing gypsy children running around at 11pm asking people for money, and it makes me feel so sad for them because they're being exploited by the very people who should be trying to protect them - their parents. A really interesting book (or maybe just an article) came out a while ago, some woman (whose name I can't remember, sorry) wrote a book about why she regrets having children and it caused a big stir. I read extracts and found it really interesting.

I've always thought that I never wanted kids, but now I'm thinking....I don't want to get married. If I have a well paying job and a good financial/living situation, I might like to adopt and be a single parent. It's not that I don't want kids, I just don't want a husband.

I have to kids love them very much wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. They are almost grown and are starting their own lives. I don't want to have any more now that they are ready to go out own their own I am ready to focus on me and have some fun of my own.

We have three kids and we're trying for #4. I said NO KIDS until I was in my mid thirties then I changed my mind. Now I wish I'd started having them when I was younger.
