If you were hired with the understanding that you would get a yearly salary, your boss can't just "make" you switch to commission, although he can fire you for budgetary reasons. If that is the case, then yes, you can collect unemployment. I would also talk to HR about a severance package. Most larger firms are willing to negotiate one so they don't risk you suing over being fired.

Maybe. Depending on your state you can collect unemployment if your working conditions change significantly. This type of payroll arrangement change might qualify.
