The shifter has a nylon ball and socket that allows it to move the two shift forks. If it is worn out it will jam in a gear. Also the shift forks ride on nylon bushings inside the trans. If they wear out the forks can jam up. Good luck!

1. There are no nylon bushings that the shifting forks ride in to wear out. All the rods that the forks are on are machined into the aluminum trans housing. There is a nylon shift ball, but when this goes bad, the shifter usually gets really loose.

2. All the shift linkage is internal with this transmission. You cannot see any shift linkage by crawling under the car.

3. There are syncro dogs that lock the syncro onto a gear. If the dogs pop out, the syncro cannot be shifted out of that gear. Trans removal is the only way to correct the problem.

4. I don't know why it would act like it was in neutral. If it is locked in 3rd, it still should be able to move, unless you burned up the clutch in driving it home in third.

Sound like you will have to pull the trans. Be sure to check the clutch when trans is out and probably replace.

Worn shift linkage can do that . . .
When you slammed it into third gear the 1-2 linkage didn't go back to the resting position and the locking pawl froze you into third gear . .
Crawl underneath and force the 1-2 linkage back to the resting position and it should release . . .
Then replace or repair the shifter so it doesn't happen again because it's worn out, too loose and it will happen again . . .

ok, i'm going to anticipate which you have a 08 GT with 3.fifty 5 gears in it. the three.seventy 3 kit is a very good compromise in terms of overall performance and financial device. it actual relies upon on the utility of what you're desiring. do you prefer to race it or justchronic it on the line and have slightly greater effective acceleration? I had a GT with an vehicle transmission and the three.seventy 3 gears. It became surprisingly rapid in site visitors and have been given midway good mileage on gasoline. you need to merely bypass to a Ford broking and organize them from Ford racing factors. sturdy success

remove the box dismantle it and you will find out that inside the gearbox the dogteeth that holds the syncros in place for the 3rd and 4th gear have come apart, and thas why its stuck there.
