Most of them don't get bills passed & the bills that do get passed are filled with so much "pork" for their own constituents (so they can get reelected) that they don't even care what the bill says. The rest of their time is w/ the press/TV, giving speeches/public appearances & meeting with lobbyists/special interest groups who basically buy their vote.
So other than a lot of talking, eating, & traveling (wasting taxpayer money) they contribute almost nothing for the country which makes them the most high profile free loaders in America & you vote for them.

Of course "normal US workers" don't produce much either...regardless of world productivity stats.

U.S congressmen had trouble when FDR was in the presidency passing laws, and they are still having trouble now. The reason this time is because a leftist whitehouse with a slim majority and a 13 percent approval rating is in charge so not much gets accomplished.
These guys are worse now than the big-headed republicans were a few years back. I believe that congressmen can do a lot of productive stuff, but only after they've achieved common ground and actually are concerned about the people's interests.

A lot of the bills being introduced don't have a snowball's chance in hell of being passed, but they look good to the groups who would benefit from such a bill.
By making it appear they are working for you, ,they keep getting re-elected and re-elected.
Oh, and they DO pass a lot of nonbinding resolutions.

As a former staff member of both the US House of Reps and US Senate, I can tell you that the only time we are truly safe, is when Congress is in recess and can do nothing.
Fire em all and pick our Reps and Senators by throwing darts at phone books. Time for regular people who can relate to serve instead of a bunch of pampered whiny (Both Parties) Milliionaires who spend their own personal fortunes to get a job that pays approx $160,000 year

First they should not be paid a high salary and all those benefits/retirement which is why most are there..and the two party system doe's not work either, they spend most of there time fighting each other and not doing what they should be..
