people often joke, even in horror films themselves sometimes that serial killers have to be men.
by killers, i don't mean kathy bates from misery, more like the films where theres a serial killer on the loose? (scream for eg)

Yeh, in Haute Tension the killer is a woman...she's not exactly a serial killer, but she is a killer. That's basically the plot twist.

Well, in Scream 2 there was a female serial killer.
I think statistically in real life more men than women are serial killers, so if you're going to be looking at it that way, it's probably easier to believe

For those who said Monster and Aileen Wournos, the question was in a HORROR film! I only know of Scream 2, although this was a shared partnership and it wasn't a horror per say. Nice question, worth looking into.

that's a good point...I think that even if a film were made like that the lady-killer wouldn't be on her own because people wouldn't be able to believe a woman could be capable of that. She'd have to co star with a another murderer who is male to make it palatable..

In Dario Argento's horror movies most of the killers are women.If you haven't seen those movies yet, just watch them.They're fantastic!!!!

Well it would depend if the killing is for good or bad ...killing innocent people is considered "Bad" on the other end killing bad guys (criminals) is considered "Good" weather it be man or women the numbers are what is looked at over who it's done by
