My boyfriend and I decided to have sex about 2 weeks ago. We used a condom and everything. However, I was supposed to start my period about 5 days ago. I have missed periods before, but only by a few days. I'm beginning to become really worried. If I really am pregnant, my life would be ruined. Do you think I should take a pregnancy test ?.

You asked if you could be pregnant since you missed your period. Yes, if you had contact with a male's pre-ejaculate, or ejaculate close to your vagina - bingo, you could be pregnant. Since pregnancy tests are cheap and at 3+ weeks after a sexual encounter, they should be reliable - a yes if pregnant (two lines usually), a no (only the "test" line) if not pregnant.

I always ask my patients three questions: Are your periods regular like clockwork? Are they always the same length of time from start of menses to end? Have you taken any new medications or begun to lose weight?

My questions about condom use is this....did you engage in foreplay without the condom? If so, pre-ejaculate does have sperm in it unless he has never, ever, ever ejaculated before. And since nature causes young men to have "wet dreams", you know he has ejaculated...and therefore has fertile pre-ejaculate.

I suggest women who use male condoms as birth control place the condom on their partner BEFORE any penis-vaginal contact. Make it part of foreplay. And make sure it is rolled all the way on with plenty of space at the tip. Afterward, make him pull out and watch him pull the condom off - or at least look to see that it is still fully on him.

They can break - you get pregnant - they can slip off during sex - you can get pregnant - or there isn't enough room at the tip for all of it - some comes out the side and makes contact with your vaginal wall - and you can get pregnant.

Lastly, your life is never ruined....sex is a fun part of life, but has consequences. Friendship can be ruined, a new life can occur, but your life would only be more complicated.

I hope you period starts soon, or that a pregnancy test gives you an answer you and your parents can deal with.

You did say your periods have been late before. 5 days could still be considered a few days. If it's not here within a week or so, then go take a pregnancy test. The only way you could be pregnant if you used a condom was if the condom broke or came off, so. That's a possibility. Try not too worry too much about it right now. Just give it a week, and then go take a test. Good luck with everything.

First, calm down. You aren't going to like this, but is is very likely. You have to say to your boyfriend and you two can figure it out. Also, a pregnancy test is ideal. Get it as soon as possible. Think before how many days were you off your period. Is it a longer time than this time? If so, then it's even more likely. I am sorry. But look on the happy side. You might have a wonderful child if you are pregnant. And if not, then there is nothing to worry about, ok. I hope to have good news :)

If your period doesn't come soon, yes you should take a test. If you feel a pregnancy would indeed "ruin" your life, then you need to quit having sex. Birth control is NOT foolproof. At the very least, get on the pill.

Ask yourself "if I am pregnant, do I want to have the baby and spend the rest of my life with this person, and does he want to be with me?" If the answer is no...you need to wait until you are a little older to have sex. You need to talk to your mother about this. She can help more than you would think.

Good for you for using protection, but unfortunately sometimes condoms can break. You should definately take a pregnancy test, to put your mind at rest, if nothing else. There are more things than pregnancy that can cause you to miss a period, such as stress, or too much weight loss. Next time, double up - use a condom AND go on the pill.

Since you are worrying so much you should go ahead and take a test to make sure. If you are five days late then the home pregnancy test should show an accurate result by now. Take it first thing in the morning with the first urination of the day because the hcg hormone is more present then.

I got pregnant at 15 and now have a 2 year old son. If you are worried about getting pregnant then quit screwing with your boyfriend and wait until marriage. I am raising my son by myself and was thrown out of my parents house and disowned because my parents didn't want a pregnant daughter in the family. Take a pregnancy test now. It should pick up the pregnancy hormone now.

ok sweetie clam down first it's good for me to hear that at least you are thinking of the conqeences of sex and that you are using condoms. But remember condoms can break I think you should take a test just to be sure and honey to be honest with you having sex at 16 is still too young. What if you get pregnant, what if you are pregnant what are you going to do? But to be honest at this time I don't think you are but still take a test

Sometimes when you have sex for the first time your period can be late, by a couple weeks. Wait a little while longer, if you still haven't had a period, sorry you should take a test. Good Luck, hope it is just nothing.

It's perfectly normal to miss a period by that long and not be pregnant. With my last period, I was late by a week, and I am surely not pregnant. But if it makes you feel better, or your period does not come for longer than a week, you should probably take a test.
