If it is the day it is observed , it is because it falls on a day that is not a regular work week day. Therefore, it is given as a holiday the next workday. When several holidays were changed by Congress to be on a particular day or week of the year, Fourth of July and Veteran's Day were maintained as the day of the original celebration. If Nov. 11 were on any day Monday through Friday, Veteran's Day would also be observed on that day.

The law says that if a declared holiday falls on a Saturday, it is celebraded the preceeding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is celebrated the following Monday. If it falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, it is celebraded on the actual date of the holiday.

What is so messed up is the fact that you didn't pay attention in your civics class.

Sometimes Vetrans Day falls on a Suday, like this year. When this happens there is Vetrans Day Observed the next Monday. This is so offices and schools can be closed to still honor and celebrate the holiday, whereas they wouldn't normally be able to this year because it is on a Sunday.
