It might be because I was very young when I first read them but it's Poe. Stephen King writes fantastic stories but I thought Poe could be real, it always seemed to be happening in that house at the end of the street or it was your neighbour. Enid should have had the Famous Five investigate him.

Stephen King, Edgar Alan Poe scares me. Then again, some of Stephen King's stuff is really weird.
