I had my membranes stripped on Friday.Im 38 weeks and 2 days I was a cm dialted, 90% effaced and the baby is fully engaged (has been for a month). Since Friday I have had a lot of pain in my right side where my cervix is. All day yesterday my vagina hurt really bad. It hurt to pee, cause there was so much pressure down there. Well at about 10:30 last night it started hurting even worse, and the right side of my back was hurting and moving to the front. I swore that this was it, that I was in labor because it was not getting any better and my vagina hurt so bad. Also, everytime I went to the bathroom I would have atleast a dime size piece of mucous. I decided I would rest before my contractions got so bad to where I had to go in. I rested for 2 hours and woke up with the pressure still there but no intense back pain.

Is this just one big false alarm? Can labor slow down and then come back?

What do you think is going on?

If you're in labor, you'd be feeling regular uterine contractions - you can place a hand on your belly and feel it tighten up into a firm ball. True labor contractions can be felt either all over the belly, down low in the front, or along your sides and back.

They key is that they should be coming at regular intervals, and should have a pretty obvious start and finish. You might have contractions that come for several hours and then slow down and stop, and this is common, it can go on episodically like that for several days or even weeks! But with true, active labor, it won't stop, they will progressively get closer together and increasingly more uncomfortable. The vast majority of women KNOW when it's time. It's a rare case when a woman has such a mild labor that she doesn't know she's really contracting and accidentally delivers her baby on the bathroom floor, or immediately upon arrival to the hospital.

But always call your doctor if you aren't sure. Describe what you're feeling, and let them decide if you need to go to the hospital to be evaluated.

Yes, early labor pains can come and go and you can be in a great deal of pain and discomfort before active labor begins.

Sounds like you're really close, but if you aren't having regular contractions, it's not time to go in yet.

If your baby is fully engaged that would explain the constant pressure you're feeling.

I would go and get checked out. It could very well be real labor. I waited a while at home too before I went in, and was ready to deliver within a few hours of getting to the hospital. Especially with you feeling pressure down there, you should go in.
Good Luck!! I hope you are holding baby very soon:)

Sounds like labor. Especially if it is not going away. Call your doctor. Let them know what is going on. Don't want to disturb them? Call the hospital and talk to someone on the maternity floor. But sounds like this baby could be coming any time now. Good luck and God bless.
