When you go to any store in the US on Saturday and Sunday, do you think the employees are being paid time and a half? You are sadly mistaken if you do.

Overtime laws vary state to state, and the Federal law only regulates time over 40 hours in one week. Doesn't matter if you work 1 day, or 7 days, the number of total hours is all that matters.

A couple highly regulated states may have laws that say that overtime must be paid if the employee works over 8 hours in one day (24 hours), but I don't know of any off the top of my head.

So, even if you live in a state with that law, you still wouldn't qualify for OT because you never worked more than 8 hours in one shift.

It is no wonder so many companies are closing their doors or moving our jobs to China. Do you think the Chinese get overtime? They don't.

Probzbly not, but it could depend on where you live. US federal law requires overtime pay for hours over 40 in a week.
