I prefer Christmas. New Year's eve has never been a big thing with me. I guess it stems from all the years I was poor and couldn't afford to do anything after spending my money on Christmas for my daughter.

Hi,
Being a Geordir, I am somewhat on the border with this one.
As a Christian, I celebrate Christmas with some gusto, without spending all day in Argos.
Freinds and family day
What has that got to do with it, I cannot afford lumps of gold frankinscence and myrr as gifts.
Mind, having lived in Oman, where one of the three kings came from, frankinscence was plentifull and duty free.
As for New year, us Geordies tend to join in with Hogmanay, across Hadrians' Wall.
So I prefer New Year, as I don't have to buy loads of silly presents for family, just a few bottles of booze to see in 2008

Christmas is a time for family
Personally I don't follow the religious side of Christmas (although I do respect it), but it is the season of goodwill and a time to spend with family, make contact with forgotten friends and hey! do something for someone less fortunate than yourself.
New Years eve is a time to party with friends, make a load of resolutions you won't keep, eat Haggis and try and remember the words to "Auld Lang Syne"

I prefer christmas. I hate new year, I go to bed and hide as it makes me cry.
