That has happened to me quite a few times. The only thing I can figure out as to why, is it seems to happen when I accidently hit two keys at the same time when typing. Not being computer savy, I usually close the page I am on and then reopen. That apparently fixes the problem....until I hit two keys at once again that is. I hope someone else can give a more effective answer as to why it happens as I'd love to hear it.

This looks like you have the wrong keyboard type (language) selected.
Dos programs use code pages, like 850.
Some OS have keyboard mapping that can be modified.

Which operating system are you using? Which code-page do you use? What country are you in?
