It's a bit early Jack. You have to understand that is nearly impossible to earn a living as an actor. But you can train for it and possibly succeed if you have ability;
The only way to test your ability is to tryout for some community theatre plays, if you get cast, maybe you have it, if you don't maybe you don't have it.
You will need a job to support you and yours while you are training. then you need to get in some plays, and then you need to take acting classes (carefully selected, there are a lot of frauds out there), do a little guided reading, be in more plays, take more classes, build a resume, get a headshot and try to get an agent. in that order, may take a couple or three years, at that point you will need a job with flexible hours so you can go to auditions and meed shooting schedules. If you want to give it a try, read my profile and write me at my aol addess where I advise aspiring actors for free.

The last two years I have worked with different actors, one over 40 and a couple over 50 who had recently graduated from Drama Courses. You don't say which bit of the UK you are living in, but there are a number of acting courses which take place in the evenings and at weekends. They do cost money, but worth it if you are serious. The other option to try before spending money, is to get involved with a local amateur group to see if it is really right for you.
Good Luck.
P.S. 29 is by no means middle aged!!

Hello:
Well I would say that it would depend largely on what you are looking for...if any acting would do or if it has to be in film. If you are in a city type area there have to be theater groups around. Hell even if you just end up taking a class at the local college you can probably join their theater group for something or another. Also google theater or acting and your city and state names or just look it up in the yellow pages and make some calls. I bet if you have to go this route that people will be helpful for someone looking to get into the business.
I hope this is helpful

Take some classes, acting classes or workshops. You can become an extra or go to community plays. If you don't want to be famous, then turn down auditions that you are offered too. I really think it's best if you do go to auditions, though...

Find a local professional or community theater in your area and audition for them. If you make it into a play, you'll establish a relationship with the theater and that may give you an upper hand if you ever decide to audition for them again. Good luck!

Prove to who? Acting is a very hard living. You spend most of your life being a waiter or shop assistant. Think again.,

Have you at least been in a play so you know you can remember lines and are comfortable in front of people?
There are casting calls for all sorts of people for commercials
or to be an extra in movies.
*Get some head shots
*Build a portfolio
* Get an agent

It depends on what role you would like to portray! Most Actors have tremendous amounts of training before they shoot a film so my advice to you is start a bit of training to be able to catch up
