Someone left a dog outside of my sister's store. He left him there this morning, and hasn't come back to take him. It's now 8:00 at night. We tried to call the humane society here in Athens, but no one is picking up the phone. We don't want the poor dog to have to stay out all night. He's scared, and he's barking, and people are afraid to go near him. Any advice would be appreciated.

contact stray.gr

keep the puppy for a few days, until they answer you, or post an ad at www.zoofilia.gr
Puppies usually get adopted easily.

If you recieve no answer at your local Humane Society, you need to call animal control. Usually they will either pick up the animal, or they will recommend some of the local "foster homes" that take in animals. Sometimes it does take a bit to recieve help, but they do respond. I am a member of the ASPCA and I can tell you that it can be frustrating to take care of these types of matters but the dog can not speak for itself so it is up to you to find the solution. I hope that you will not give up on the animal and do what you can to find him help. Dont give up on the Humane Society. A lot of these offices are understaffed and it is not always possible to have someone to answer the phone regularly. I would advise you to leave them a message and they WILL return your phone call.

sadly you probably won't get a reply from them, try feeding him some food and find a box for him and try again in the morning.
