For example, I have seen a bolt of fabric with teddy bear torsos, faces, and arms printed on it, and you would cut out the pieces, sew them together, and have a completed bear.

I want a simple one for an angel, but the stores have no idea what sort of fabric I mean.

They're called craft panels. Anyone who works in a fabric store should know that. They may have pretended not to know because they don't have any and don't want you to look in any other stores.
