Yes. When I was a teenager, I was on Springboard and part of the course was an outward bound holiday. During the course, they sent us on an unsupervised camping expedition. Two of the group were glue sniffers and they got high every night.
Each night they would pour cold water over me and so I wasn't surprised when they did it the final night, but the final night, it wasn't water, it was the remaining methylated (cooking) spirit. It stung my eyes and choked me and while I was howling like a baby for them to get me to the Windermere to wash it off, I opened my eyes slightly and saw little flickers of light. The two lads who were high had got their lighters out and they were so close I could feel the heat.
Miraculously, the breeze had dropped and there wasn't a breath of air otherwise, I would have become a human torch. I didn't sleep the rest of that night and when I got back I complained to the supervisor who told me to stop whinging. I didn't dare tell my parents about that but I did tell them about when the aforementioned supervisor had thrown stones at me to get me moving down the 'mountain' a bit more quickly and when he'd come into the girl's room with just a small towel round him ... they lodged a complaint and he was reprimanded. Had I told them about the 'meths' incident, he'd have probably been sacked.

I once rode a motorbike into a street light, I swerved to miss a car. I was taken in as a fatality, coma for about a month, head injury, shattered body. It's just taken me 21 years to get over it. The worst part was I broke the root of one of my front teeth. Now I have a plate; that 'is' bad.

When I was 12 I was in a serious car accident caused by a drunk driver. I went into cardiac arrest multiply times. I was in a coma for 1 month and rehabilitation was long and hard.
Those who knew me before say I am a completely different person now. I think I am a better person for it though.

One occasion springs to mind....when I had an intestinal obstruction about 11 years ago. My surgeon came to see me about 5 days after the surgery and told me that I could have died....I guess I will never know how close I was, though....I know I had spent a week at home with my condition worsening before I got to the hospital.
