Many people think that anything of a sexual nature should not be talked about- they themselves do it and more than likely enjoy it but unfortunately some people were brought up to believe pleasure is a bad thing no matter how you go about it. Masturbation as well as intercourse is nothing to be ashamed of, shy about or offended by....although age can be a factor

They don't really think that they just say it because they are embarassed and don't want others making fun of them.

Because it shows that people are comfortable with the sexual side of themselves, and we most certainly wouldn't want that.
