Okay it is very simple. First you try to simplify things by combining like terms. -2a and 3a are like terms because they both have the variable a. -2a+3a=1a.

Your equation should now look like this:

a+4=5-26

The next part is very easy. Again you try to simplify things. 5-26=-21.

a+4=-21

Now you have to get a by itself. So you subtract 4 from both sides.

a=negative 25

First, combine like terms on the left and right sides.
(-2a+3a= a) and (5-26=-21) so that you now have:
a+4 = -21
Now, subtract 4 from both sides so that a = -25

-2a + 4 + 3a = 5 - 26
Step 1: Combine like terms (anything that has the the same variable or no variable)
a+4= -21
then subtract both sides by 4 to get the variable bu itself on one side of the = sign.
a= - 25
