...That you FINALLY --after reading the rave reviews-- decided to take a listen to, and came to the conclusion:
Is this what all the commotion is about?

On my list are three:

*Deerhoof
(sorry to offend anyone - I just don't like them much, and I hate it even more when they're compared with Blonde Redhead)

*My Morning Jacket
(I'm convinced people just like to mention their name because it sounds cool )

*Tristessa
(Again - a reference to a Jack Kerouac book was not enough to get my vote)

Thanks for mentioning Pedro The Lion and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - that's totally another one I have to agree with. Jetz To Brazil is another one!!

Rckets -- lol ... I guess I'm among the pretentious Radiohead fan crowd you're talking about :)

Huevo, you nailed it! a lot of this stuff just puts you to sleep. And it's funny that you should mention Wilco, because I was seriously considering listing them, too ...

Yes, I agree that the Arctic Monkeys aren't anything special. But I'd probably much rather listen to the Arcade Fire if I had two pick between the two.

You know what it is Buzzkill? It's a voice comparison, which is way off, that I've read in reviews that try to draw a connection between Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino and Deerhoof's Satomi Matsuzaki. I'm assuming it's because they're both of Asian background - which doesn't mean diddly squat. I should say that instrumentally, Deerhoof don't do much for me. Maybe I need to wait around for their next release.

(I'm beginning to type all ghetto)

Oh Rukrym I'm so sorry - I don't mean to offend. But I'm sure it's also a personal taste thing -- and acquired taste for some of us who grew up listening to other genres.

For the record - I'm aware that some of my contacts and I don't share, entirely the same music interests, but I will say that I have opened my mind to some bands that I was critical of before. Who knows? Deerhoof and Clap Your Hands ... might surprise me with something new.

I'll agree, I knew Jets To Brazil was not going to be so great after listening to the final Jawbreaker album. Blake Schwartzenbach was definitely heading in a different direction.

Honestly, I don't find Wilco all that interesting. I like a few songs (particularly Misunderstood) but they are nowhere near the greatness that was Uncle Tupelo.

I was recently checking out some of the other bands I've seen mentioned here and there and have decided I pretty much can't listen to the stuff like Minus the Bear or Peter Bjorn & John. That stuff puts me right to sleep.

I gotta agree with Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys - they do absolutely nothing for me. Also, Keane and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (good call lovnrckets!)... I was worried for a while there was something wrong with me because I didn't like them but now I am pleased to hear that I'm not alone : )

I've heard Deerhoof a little and while I wouldn't compare them to Blonde Redhead (not sure how anyone could) I certainly would rather hear them than Keane.

I'm a little stumped by the mention of Pedro the Lion because I don't hear much commotion over them but I guess I must be missing something.

Wow, I really feel like the odd one out now. I really like practically every band that's been mentioned so far. Other than Keane (although they're hardly indie) and Deerhoof.

Top of my list would probably be Wilco. I got "Sky Blue Sky" after hearing a lot of really good things about it, and honestly just found it boring. There's a few good tracks on there, but not nearly enough to justify the hype.

Others I think worth mentioning -

Broken Social Scene
TV on the Radio
The New Pornographers

Edit:
Ha, it's nothing to be sorry about, I wasn't offended :) When it comes to people's taste in music, I don't really care if they like the same bands as me or not, it's more important that they be passionate about the music they like. As for CYHSY, I think their first album is amazing, their second was pretty dire.

I really dig My Morning Jacket actually but to each his own. And yeah, apart from japanese frontwomen deerhoof and BR have jack in common

my vote either goes to all the pithy swedish twee pop thats come out in the last couple years - Jose Gonzalez, Peter Bjorn and John, etc. Explain to me how these guys are any more than a Euro John Mayer.

Here's some that I don't think are anything special:

-Arctic Monkeys
-Grizzly Bear
-Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
-Magic Numbers
-Death Cab for Cutie
-Pedro the Lion

This should be good times.

Radiohead - Usually with bands we are stuck hearing the old cliche that their earlier stuff was their peak. Not so with the overly pretentious fans of Radiohead. There seems to be an inverse formula that the less attention their albums receive makes them better. They're OK, but nothing special.

Keane - These guys can't be serious.

Band of Horses - Band of Boring is more like it

The National - Already got Interpol, thanks.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Ought to change the Yeah to Blah.

MachPen - No, not you at all. But they do exist and I must protect their identity. :) Good call on MMJ, I would have mentioned them as well.

Cat Power
Bosque Brown
Deathcab for Cutie
My Morning Jacket
Arctic Monkeys
Bright Eyes (probably my most hated)
The Bravery
Gun Club (sorry but I can't get over the dude's vocal out of tune-ness)

Bright Eyes. (if you want to consider them indie) Some of their stuff is good, but for the most part, I don't think they're that amazing.
