Because what if you say something that directly contradicts what they think? For close friends, I think politics is fine (or should be fine), but other wise no way on of those subjects. It's just not comfortable. If by "race" you mean countries and stuff like that, that's acceptable, just don't go around saying how much you think some country sucks.

Race, religion and politics (and football!) are subjects that engender strong feelings for people. It's too easy to put your foot in it by saying something inappropriate.
If you disagree with someone's strongly held personal beliefs it can make them change their opinion of you.

in malaysia the sensitive people are muslims,they talk **** bout others all the time but you talk bout them they call the cops on you!
