They don't howl only at the moon, they howl at all different times. Its a socializing thing in the pack. They howl together to establish camaraderie and oneness in the pack.

Wolves don't howl at the moon. It is the way they communicate with members of their pack and occasionally neighboring packs. It is kind of like their social time. They tend to do this more on nights with bright moons because it is a lot lighter out.

wolves do not howl at the moon they howl for different reasons such as: death, a kerl (lone wolf), sarrow, hunting, pride, new pack members, pups, etc...long such there has been a myth that they howl at the moon and long such people have believed this.

They are not really howling at the moon.

The reason you tend to hear more howling on full moon nights or really clear nights is because there it is so much brighter out. The extra light gives them much more of an opertunity to be active, be it hunting, playing, breeding or just hanging out.
