The heads on the engines of small and some big engines are aluminum. The plug is steel. This means that they can strip out very easy. It would be in your best interest to screw the plug in with your fingers and then get on it with the wrench and see if it is down all the way. At this point if you turn it more than 1/4 the way around you are over doing it. This is the easiest way to tighten them without a torque wrench. If you have over tightened it then the threads in the head are stripped and the plug wont get a tight seal. Easy to check? There are several ways to check the first one is to unhook that pug wire and spray soapy water on the plug, try to start it and if you see bubbles on the plug you are in trouble. Another way to check is to unplug the wire and try to start it slowly and listen for hissing sounds.
