I know that it is necessary to differentiate Mac's from PC's, but isn't a Mac a type of personal computer, and therefore, a PC?

Often, the term personal computer is used exclusively for computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system, but this is erroneous. For example, a Macintosh running Mac OS and an IBM PC compatible running Linux are both personal computers. This confusion stems from the fact that the term PC is often used as a shorthand form for IBM PC compatible and historically Mac OS has run on non-IBM compatible hardware like the PowerPC architecture.

That is not how the name "PC" has come to be used. It dates back to the days when the one with the Microsoft operating system was the desktop computer used personally at home or dedicated to a single individual in a business office. At that time the Apple was a tool used by people who wanted to do artwork and layout books and advertisements. Later they decided that the next version MAC had the power to do those processing tasks too and started calling it a personal computer.

So MAC and PC may do the same jobs but their nicknames in common use don't reflect it.

yea bro ur on the right track however they want to make products to compete on the market thats how the economy works. however it being the antonym is because macs are used a networking scale in business and colleges in the past and therefore are not really personal pc's and macs are just names in the end one trying to sound more sophisticated than the other

I think its because after Windows machines, Macs are the most common operating system. Linux is up and coming, but it still doesn't rate as a option for a lot of software and hardware (drivers).

at the bottom of the "mac" there is a application bar at the bottom of the screen and you can customize it to fit your needs

of course, the pat answer is "underweight", yet i do no longer think of that's what you have chose. attempt to think of up some procedures of asserting 'skinny', underfed, gentle and words like that. "Borderline anorexic" is one cynical way.
