instead of cutting thier sevles and hanging thier selves why wont they just choose not to breathe and then they die?

if you choose to not breathe, you will eventually pass out, but at that point, your body takes control and makes you breathe as an instinctual defense mechanism

You can't kill yourself that way. If you hold your breath and stop breathing, all you will do is pass out and wake up from it later. Unless of course you have a garbage bag or something over your head, but your first instinct when you wake would be to pull that off anyway. Besides, I can't imagine that would be a good way to go.

You can hold your breath until you pass out. Then you would start breathing again. Can't commit suicide that way.

i think that the bodies will to live is too strong and you are not able to just hold your breath until you die. You would pass out first then when you are out your body would automatically breath. Have you ever tried to hold your breath til youdie? It just does not work that way!

Try it and you'll see why. It wouldn't matter how long you 'choose' not to breathe, at some point your autonomic reflexes will kick in and make you breathe.

this is one evidence that the body is programmed to fights and struggle to stay alive. that suicide is against our nature.
you remind me someone funny who tried to choke himself by his hands.. seriously. and his friends got afraid and tried to prevent him, as if he would be able to do it.
God knows that we might be stupid, some moments, that's why he never assigned such mission to our free will. It is printed in our neurological system, he told it, keep this stupid guy a live.

Because breathing is controlled by involuntary muscles, so it is impossible to choose not to breathe.
