Does anyone know if they plan on making a movie of the wicked musical in the future?

The Wicked Movie is almost inevitable.

The Book and Movie are extremely popular, there have been several successful musical adaptations, and theoretically there is a third book coming out in the "Wicked" cycle. All point to a financial incentive to make a "Wicked" movie.

And I'm all for it. I hate hearing how "the movies aren't as good." The fact is, making a movie is the only way some people are going to get to see "Wicked." My only wish is that the movie brings in a few more elements of the book, rather than be a straight adaptation of the Musical. I'd love to see Dorothy actually interact with Elphaba, and I'd really like to see Liir.

But I'll see it, no matter what.

I totally disagree with the first answer -- they don't ALWAYS make movies that are worse than the stage plays! The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors, Chicago and Phantom of the Opera are just some of the fantastic movies made from stage musicals.

Personally, I hope they do someday make Wicked into a movie -- it is such an awesome musical, a movie would allow so many more people to see it!

Personally, I hope they don't make Wicked into a movie. There is something magical about seeing it on stage, and I don't think that they would be able to capture that on film. I can already picture the cheezy special effects. As for them doing it with the OBC, Kristin and Idina will unfortunately be too old to play college students by the time the movie actually gets made. So I hope that they don't make a movie of the musical.

I absolutely loved this musical. I saw it in Hollywood this past weekend for my birthday. I would be curious to see how a movie would turn out but I agree that it won't have the same effect as seeing it performed live. Nothing compares to that!!

I know that a lot of movie companies want the rights to the movie, but no one has made a good enough offer!

They haven't talked about it much. Steven Schwartz thinks Universal will eventually make it into a movie.
