In Canada we don't have Veterans Day. We have Remembrance Day which is always observed on 11 November at 11:00 AM, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, as do all other Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealand etc.
Many Canadians wear a red poppy for a week or two prior to Remembrance day, and a week or two after Remembrance Day.
Since 1921, the Poppy has stood as a symbol of Remembrance, our visual pledge to never forget all those Canadians who have fallen in war and military operations. The Poppy also stands internationally as a “symbol of collective reminiscence”, as other countries have also adopted its image to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
It's 10:30am here now, and I'm on my way to 'Central Memorial Park' (a few blocks from my house) to gather with the thousands of others to pay our respects.

My heart goes out to all of our brave soldiers that have given us the freedoms that many seem to take for granted. How soon we forget!
My song would be an interpretation by The Guess Who of part of the famous poem 'In Flanders Fields' written by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.
The Guess Who - Friends Of Mine:
In Flanders Fields the poppies grow
between the crosses row on row
to mark the dead
To Flanders Fields the hippies go
to smoke the poppies there below
and feed their heads

Christina - FYI, people killed, and gave their lives so you could answer this question. Did you know that Jimi Hendrix served as a paratrooper in the US army for 7 months? If he hadn't broken his ankle, he would have more than likely done some killing himself.

Mine would be either: Give peace a chance or Imigine or Happy X-mas(War is over) by John Lennon
or
The fish cheer by country Joe and the fish.
Pshhhh...I don't respect someone who kills, and I'm sure they won't appreciate Hendrix. He was one of us.
Peace!
