okay, so a few months ago i was in highschool. i was a senior and started dating a freshman, it was actually pretty normal in my school. When we started dating, i was 17 and she was 15. im 2 years and 8 months older than her. so im 18 now and shes gonna be 16 soon. So now i get to the problem. Ever since i turned 18, her parents have been extremely against her dating me, i've been with her for 8 months now without her parents approval, but a few days ago, her dad found out i was in their house with her while they weren't home. I realize the legal age of consent laws etc. and im not dumb, i simply stopped by on my way to class to see her for a little, seeing as how shes not allowed to hang out with me otherwise. Now her dad is threatening that if i continue to see her, i could get into serious trouble with the law. What i dont get is, as long as there is no sexual relations, it should be fine, no? and she will be 16 soon, can he still threaten me once she's at this age?

i understand that she is under her dads rule until 18 or until she moves out but, can he legally get me into trouble for simply dating his daughter against his will once shes 16? Can he somehow file a restraining order or something rediculous?

It is the age of consent laws. Now, even if she is 16, she is still under the statutes.

The most dad could do is haul you in on harrassment charges, but there is nothing wrong if you do not have sex with her

Age of consent in CT is 16. Thus, you can't have sex. If you don't, then you can't be nabbed for statutory rape laws. But he can legally punish her for seeing you, and have you arrested for trespassing if you come onto the property without his permission.

As far as I know there are no laws in the U.S. or Canada to prevent dating as such at any age. If there's no sexual relations involved, you can't get in trouble with the law in that regard. However, you'll have to look at the law regarding parental rights over children and the age at which they are no longer enforceable. It could be age 16, or it could be at the age when children officially become adults - which could be 18, 19, or 21. Best to check out the actual laws before proceeding with this relationship any further.

Unless someone tells the police etc. that you are in a relationship with her (sexual or emotional) you could get arrested.

If no one has any complaints and you do have sex and IF she gets pregant by law in some states they cannot ask a 16 year old how old her boyfriend is.

Her dad can do whatever until she is 18 or moved out, and he can still threaten but if it threatens your life you can charge him for threating your life.

Yes, the age if consent in Connecticut is 16 so sexual activity is legal... BUT she is still a minor so if she disobeys her parents because if you or for you, you could be charged with something like "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" Its unlikely you would be prosecuted but it is a possibility. Good luck!

16 is the age of consent in Conn. It is also legal for anyone who is less than 3 years apart in age to have sex with each other if one person is over 18.

But as long as she lives under his roof he can say whether you can visit or not - no matter what your age or hers.

She is his responsibility and should obey the house rules. You are considered an adult, she still a minor. Being 16 won't change much though, I believe the age is 17 for her.

This might give you some insight into Connecticut's laws. I think though you should not go against the wishes of her parents. Try to approach this from a different angle, if they still resist you, move on.

The law states you must be no more than 2 years older to have sex with them, not have a relationship.

As long as you keep it in your pants you're doing nothing wrong.
