Soil erosion is the removal of the soil from an area.

Soil depletion is the removal of the necessary nutrients from the soil.

No, soil depletion is not simply erosion. Soil depletion is when the nutrients in the soil are not replenished and vegetation is not able to grow very well or at all. This can be caused by slash- and- burn agriculture and livestock. Chemicals can also have the same effect. Erosion is when the soil is displaced by either wind, water, or ice. This is sometimes a nautral occurance, even though deforestation, desertificication, and agriculture cn cause this problem as well.
