Any class period 9 is the worst. Who wants to learn math after a full day of school. The only math they care about is how many minutes until they get to leave.

The worst class I've ever had was a senior high school Language Arts class on the Navajo reservation at a place called Shiprock Alternative Schools Inc., in Shiprock, New Mexico.
To say most of these kids had an "attitude" would be a major understatement; they had attitudes on steroids.
And they were almost all members of one gang or another. Many would show up (when they bothered to) at school either drunk or high and some of them even brought guns to school. We had four drive-by shootings while I was there, and the administration would do NOTHING to stop any of this. I lasted about 8 months. By then I'd gotten so disgusted by the whole situation that I decided that going back to Saudi Arabia to teach was far preferable.

It was probably the smallest class in junior high school I ever had but was made up of predominantly non-performers. The remaining few were over-achievers and had very little influence on the rest of the class. Non-performers can often be melded into performing by a larger group of students who wish to accomplish something. This class was out of balance in the worst way. Yes, your first answerer is correct, a field trip is the worst; especially if you get a bus driver who combs her hair while driving and can't shift gears on a steep hill. I had forgotten about that incident.

I can clearly remember the worst class. I was a substitute teacher but I was very experienced as I had 4 children of my own and had subbed for years. We had just moved to a new area so it was my first day in this school. The teacher didn't leave complete lesson plans and the prinicipal couldn't find the manuals to teach from, so she just gave up. So there was nothing to teach from. The copy machine was down and I couldn't run copies of my own. I had all her recess duties, and she didn't explain how their lunch program worked (sts. had cards to be punched or something) so that was a mess. It was a third grade class which you wouldn't think would be bad, but this teacher had unbelievable discipline problems. As I was lining the kids up for buses, and yes I had bus duty, one of the boys was throwing little stones from the carpet at other sts. so I had him stand up front with me while I got everyone organized to go home. On top of that, it was pouring when I was outside with bus duty. Then I get home and the principal calls me and asks why I had this boy stand in the front of the class. What a day! Needless to say I never went back there again!

i am a high school social studies teacher, and i am assigned to the "hell class". the first 2 months was hell. there was a time where in the middle of the class, a brawl broke out at the back of the room. but now, they have tamed down a bit.
