most religions and some philosophies are based on this realization of yours.
Christianity calls it the battle of flesh against spirit.( the 2 part man)
then there are those that hold to Plato's theory of 3 part man 1 appetite (desires) 2 logical man 3.ethical (spiritual man)

but basically all theories come down to this--
man is a spiritual being clothed in flesh , and put into a physical world to overcome the worldly hungers and base nature ,thereby lifting up the spirit to a higher level.

I do disagree with you that the (mind) perverts the purpose.
I put forth the possibility to you that our appetites or animal natures actually have a mind of their own .that as a 2 part being we are of 2 minds, that of fulfilling our appetites and that of fulfilling our spiritual growth.
that once we recognize the separation and imbalance in our person of 2 agendas we can through meditation ,prayer and discipline ( the ethical and logical mind ) right this imbalance and accomplish our mission of spiritual growth .

There is no human nature separate from animal nature - the two are inextricable from one another.

The capacity of the mind to "pervert" or to self-actualize is extensive. To see only one capacity is to miss the whole picture

Most things that arise in meditation are worth letting go of and returning to the meditation object. Grabbing hold of the mental debris that drifts by is not really meditation, but something else entirely.

No offense is intended, but if you are just starting in meditation, you may not be aware of the extensive capacity of the unconscious to try to tip the apple cart of concentration over. This is often accomplished with precisely the kind of distractions we are most prone to falling for....

Hope this helps,

Peace,

;-)

Your meditations are producing acronyms?

I disagree with your conclusion. It is not the 'mind' of man that perverts our animalistic nature. it is man's inablilty to control his animalistic nature that causes the problem because his mind is weak, allowing his emotions/desires to run unchecked.
