My cousin and I both used to have trouble swallowing pills. What we did was practice on Tic Tacs because they are small and fairly easy to swallow, then move up to plain M&Ms or on other types of candy that are a simular size and shape to pills. We used candy to practice because we didn't want to overdose on real pills.

Well i taught myself.
I got some sweets like the heart shaped powdery type ( the ones with the messages on ) , i broke them up into small pieces ( very small at first. ) Then put them right at the back of your mouth, gradually increase the size of the piece ,then when she thinks she is ready, try it with a pill.
Maybe take it with juice instead of water,it can take your mind off what your actually swallowing.Let her pretend she is taking a normal drink, nothing to be worried about.
Once she maneges to do it once, she will be able to do it all the time!
Good luck with your daughter, she'll be swallowing pills in no time!

I'm 18 and I can't swallow pills. My mother couldn't until she was 21. I'm not sure what it is...I just can't bring myself to do it - I gag them back up. If your daughter is looking for methods to help herself swallow pills, then I think you should show her the suggestions made above me. But, if it doesn't seem to affect your daughter (i.e. she is still able to take liquid), it is not a necessity that she be able to do so.

Whenever I go to the doctor and need a prescription I have to request the liquid form. Also, pain relievers such a Tylenol now come in an Adult Liquid so that you don't have to take so much of the children's version.

try using a straw at first...tell her to put the pill in her mouth and just start drinking out of the straw...tell her not to think about it and it should go right down...also if u don't want to use a straw just tell her to put the pill as far back on her tongue as possible and then just take a drink and swallow...I saw that someone suggested practicing with popcorn kernels...i would not do that! i have heard of some people choking on popcorn kernels...i would not practice with anything other than pills...just everytime she has to take a pill don't let her bite it or mix it with something because if she does it a normal way she will keep getting better and better and eventually she will be able to swallow pills...good luck!

I'm 17 and still cant swallow pills, they make me feel like I'm going to choke so I take everything in liquid form! My mom always says that she knows that I'm not taking anything bad because I couldn't swallow it if I wanted to!

The way that my mom taught me was... putting the pill at the very back of my tongue and then... taking a big gulp of water, washing the pill down my throat.
Another way I do it is... just putting the pill in my mouth and then taking a big gulp of water and puffing out my cheeks and then swallowing. You never feel the pill going down.

Well i always just throw the pill into my mouth and take a drink of water then swallow.
You can also put the pill into a glass of water and wait for it to dissolve, then drink it. But the water can be a bit hard to drink because you can taste the pill.

My parents told me to think that I was just chewing and that now I have to swallow so they had me put the bill as far back as I could put it without gagging and then I drank the water. Its better with smaller pills and she shouldn't think about it or that may make her gag to.

It may not be possible. With some it is just hard to do. Its probably more a mental thing. There are adults that can't swallow pills. Be patient with her and if possible get liquid from. If it's a prescription there are many prescriptions that can be pill and liquid form. You can ask your Dr. for the liquid form.
