sec x / tan x
= (1 / cos x) / (sin x / cos x)
= (1 / cos x) (cos x / sin x)
= 1 / sin x
= cosec x

Sec = 1/cos
Tan = Sin /Cos
therefore sec/tan = 1/cos / sin/cos = 1/cos * cos/sin
= 1/sin = cosec

The above are using trigonometric identities and you can also prove them using geometry
