I recently noticed that there were several food items in one of our local grocery stores with expired dates on them.

Call the manager of the store.

Its not illegal to sell out-of-date merchandise. Most of the time, it will be marked-down well before it expires. In some cases it may be marked "as is" and sold after expiration.

If the store doesn't know it has these items on its shelf, it probably means that a department manager or an outside product rep isn't doing their job properly. Letting the manager know is the best way to fix the problem.

I have come to believe that just because there is an expiry date on something, doesn't mean to say it is not safe for say consumption after that date.
I would urge you to re-emamine the items to see. Or at least make some enquiries before you might do something you might regret.

first make the stores management aware of this, they may not have been aware and they need to pull the product off the shelf immediately...if it is something you have bought and have the label you can also call the company that puts out the product and make them aware of this too...they will usually send you free product for this.

Talk to the manager. They usually remove the items and sometimes give you a discount on your purchases for bringing it to their attention.
