It's ridiculous for gay activists to sue eHarmony. Here's the way I look at it:
If a company doesn't cater to your interests, don't give them your business. Duh. It's the same rationale I use by not going to restaurants that allow smoking...smoke in my lungs is not one of my interests, so those restaurants don't get my business.
Gay people don't lose out by not finding mates on eHarmony. The only loser in this situation is eHarmony, because they lose clients by leaving out a group that constitutes 10-15% of the population.

I think that what we have to consider is why these laws are there. They are to protect people's rights against discrimination.
If you went to a supermarket and were refused service because you were gay, (or black, or a woman, or disabled, or Jewish) then that's what these laws are there to protect against.
If I read the article correctly, the argument here is based on eHarmony not offering same sex match ups as a service. I would say that she is not being discriminated against on the basis of her sexuality. If she wanted to be matched up with a man, then that is a service that eHarmony offers. They don’t offer same sex match ups. That's it. Only if they refuse to offer opposite sex match ups for gay people do they violate the law. It’s no different from an Indian person going into a restaurant and being told that they do not serve Indian food. They are allowed not to sell Indian food, but not allowed to refuse service because someone is Indian.
This kind of lawsuit does more damage than simply trivialise anti-gay discrimination. It actually lends weight to the argument from the bigots that we want “special” rights. Hopefully the legal big wheels will see sense and throw it out.

I honestly don't think it's right since there are already plenty of gay dating sites out there nowadays. I don't think it's anti-gay of eHarmony at all, especially since a private company. Why sue them if there are plenty of other dating sites to choose from instead? Just use the gay/lesbian sites.

No, it's hypocritical of eHarmony to advertise that they can find "someone for everyone" and not mean it. If they mean that their policy applies to everyone EXCEPT gays, Jews, blacks, Hispanics, etc., then they should say so and take their lumps for it. If they are a service that intentionally caters only to a certain clientele, then they should be upfront about it, regardless of the laws on the books about discrimination, and how bad they'll get their @$$e$ handed to them...kind of like, er, NOW.

we love to sue each other here in america. and it is hard to care about this when people lose life, shelter and jobs for being gay. as dude above me said the best way to get them is the fact that they don't get our business
but the evil elf in me likes the idea of someone giving this eHarmony bigot a little grief.

A private company should have the right to cater to whomever it wishes.

Easy answer:Yes it's hypocritical.
Double sided.
Lots of examples of this in modern culture.
It's passed off though.
Unfortunatly,it's anything for money :(

I'll answer with a hypothetical question:
If eHarmony were to only accept white people would it be right for blacks to sue them as long as there was black only sites?
It's time we stop excluding "certain people".

I think the activists are wasting their time. There are many dating websites that they can sign up to. E Harmony is losing business themselves by making the decision they chose. They chose not to cater to half the population, so thats their own loss and they should realize it for themselves.

This is a prime example of abuse of the courts and a frivolous lawsuit. There is no reason in the world it should even be a case, much less heard.
Its just pure stupidity that these types of lawsuits even go forward and do NOTHING but denigrate the image of gays and lesbians worldwide.
