with all the religions out there, do you personally think saying Merry Christmas is such a bad idea?

My sons daycare isn't teaching "christmas" and would prefer if people didn't wish others a "merry christmas" - seems too much for me!

No. I would not be offended if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanzaa, just be prepared to hear a Merry Christmas from me. Political correctness has gone way too far.

Christmas is a very important holiday to Christians worldwide and it has been going on for a long time. Why should it make that much of a difference now considering it was celebrated and said since the beginning of Christianity. If some people are offended they should simply state that they don't celebrate Christmas. This is no difference from saying Happy Hanukkah or any other holiday.

No way. We live in a country that values freedom of speech, remember?

I personally say Happy Holidays because I do not presume to know what other celebrate, but anyone who wishes me a Merry Christmas gets a big smile and the same words returned.

And I'm a pagan who celebrates Yule.

But it's not my job to tell others what to say or do. It's the intent that matters - and for years I've noticed that the majority of others feel the same way.

There is nothing wrong with saying Merry Christmas, that is our right as an American. There are two many people out there trying to change the way our country was started and our Constitutional rights. There are too many people changing the wrong things like; telling us we have to wear seat belts when that should be our right, how anti American is that.
Our forefather in America made this a great country and God was a very strong part of that, but now we have people who want to take out "in god we trust" in our currancy or anything that has to do with the government, you can't pray in our schools. People our country needs to have choices in religion but we also need our freedom of speech not to infringe on others rights of freedom of religion.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Of course not.
Happy Hannukah shouldn't be banned either. Just because there is freedom of religion doesn't mean the majority of a populace should have to stop practicing THEIR religion or their holidays. The fact is, though, that Christmas is not a religious holiday to everyone. It has become an American tradition to celebrate Christmas. You don't think Santa Claus is a god or anything, do you?

Of course not. The USA guarentees religious freedom. So Christians should be allowed to celebrate their religion in the Christian way, Jews should be allowed to celebrate their religion in the Jewish way, Muslims should be allowed to celebrate their religion in the Muslim way, and so on.

What the hell is wrong with saying Merry Christmas as long as I don't prevent others from practicing their religion in their own way?

"Political correctness" (which is far from correct, by the way) has reached new heights of stupidity when we start banning words from our everyday lives.

Do you want the government to tell us all we cannot express our religious good cheer, whether it's "Merry Christmas, or Happy Hanukkah? That's ludicrous! This country was founded on the principle of freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.
