its pretty hard to diagnose your problem with the amount of information you're giving. Is the smoke coming from the back part of engine or the front? If you can, open the hood whilst its running and see where the smoke or steam is coming from. Also identify the colour of the smoke or steam. White usually means water, which usually means your radiator isnt working or its overheating. I suspect your radiator isnt circulating the water throughout its pipes, or it has a leak, thus the steam coming out.
This doesnt really help much, but try to isolate the problem and hopefully others can diagnose the problem better.

Color of smoke might be telling. Dark is probably oil, white is probably coolant. Certainly a head gasket is a candidate but if the fluids are holding, the thermostat is a great possibliltiy as suggested earlier. Radiator, hose, or water pump leaks are another possiblity. Because your oil is supposedly not burning up, coolant is the next big item to look at. I suppose, something could be sitting on the exhaust and burning as well. Would need more info.

Pedro S correct, look and see what going on. It could be a small hole in a water hose and not start until the car hot and build pressure in the radiator.
Usually the smell give you a clue. If, it smell like oil burning, then as Pedro mentions check valve covers. They will leak oil on the exhaust manifold sometimes or up on top of the intake. Sometimes you can see a small puddle of oil.
If, it a sweet smell it Radiator or hose. Many radiators today are crap. They use plastic sides on the center core. These can crack over time.
Just be careful looking around when things are hot. A small spray from a hose can scald.

I agree with the second post. It could be anything without actually looking at the car. It could be the Radiator Cap , A Radiator Hose / or any hose that carrys water , Your over Flow Container may have a leak or may be missing . These are all minor repairs. If it is Major you could have a cracked engine Cylinder Head , A warped Cylinder Head , A Cracked Head Gasket . If you live in Los Angeles County I know of one of the best Radiator Shops in Los Angeles County and I DO NOT work their . If you know of a radiator shop you can trust take your car their. I can be emailed

Hi, I had this happen to me. All fluids were tip top. I took it to the shop. Blown head gasket. Not a good thing, Think of your engine as a pressure cooker. Fluids are steaming out slowly. It is very expensive to have repaired. If in deed it is that. Trade your car soon. Its no good.

You could have a bad water pump or a bad thermastat or a busted radiator just a few things but if your car is running hot their is (somthing) wrong with your cooling system which needs to be fixed asap because it can lead to bigger and more expensive problems.
