I've written a book and intend to get it published. It's 21 640 words and I've given it to my English Literiture A Level teacher to read - she said it's very well written but as it's a cross genre I need to research to see if there's a market for it. My question is: Would you buy and /or read a book of which it's genres were time travel, romance, horror, thriller? It also includes domestic violence, rape and supernatural?

Thank-you for all your answers- thanks also for being honest as it's better to be honest so I don't publish it and no-one wants to read it! To the person who said about 'rape', I don't know how else to word it. The 'rape' part is crucial to the entire story.

And sorry to the guys but the book is aimed at women! I've let two guys read it and it seemed it would be more enjoyable for women than men.

Nothing new there. It's the story line and social novel concerning our daily life. Romance and sex is o.k. But we have complicated social life. My advice to U, pick up some social problem and write. It's fiction but it should be based on some people's life. Reality shows on TV channels draw more attention. If U choose characters in your novel who R living somewhere, that would make it more interesting. I've written a book and got published also. I've a novel half written. It's on social life of people in pre-independence era. My e-mail : bkmahatma@yahoo.com. I can help U, if U want to join me as co-writer of a novel. If U have written a good novel, marketing won't be difficult but it should really be good. So first decide your story line before U jump to writing. Sorry, I'm not a woman. Why I'm answering it at all.

Yes, if it was described it. You may not want it include domestic violence or rape in your desciption. It is sort of long and drawn out. Supernatural is fine you have to use word that don't deter from the others. say a romantic thriller, horror, and time travel will keep you spell bound .

That's an interesting combination of genres. I would certainly read it. Very less authors are able to combine time-travel, romance, horror, thriller and violence.
But I prefer it if you convert that "rape" part into "rape-attempt" ? As much important as it is, make it as less vulgar as possible, or you may not get any good number of good readers.

No, because of the domestic violence and rape. I read for pleasure, and I don't enjoy anything about either of those.

For all the other, yes, yes, yes. There are some time travel/romance things out there, very entertaining.

Your book sounds interesting. I would read it just to see what it's about. Your best bet with narrowing it down to one genre is calling it a romance. There are plenty of romance novels nowadays that have thriller and horror elements.

sure. it all in one. go ahead and do it even if your research proves that not many will read it. you know why?

firstly because you will entertain and touch the lives of those who do, and more importantly if you dont publish it and just keep it in a drawer, you will spend the rest of your life wondering what it would have been like if you did.

you sound like a talented person, so dont hide in the shadows just because some think that your book may not "sell"

wish you the best of luck

Sounds good, but I may need a little bit of a teaser/piece from the book to see what it's really like, then I'll let you know. I'm going through the same thing, although my story is very different from yours. I hope you're successful!

I think you need to describe it a little more. Right now your list of genres makes it sound like some fan fiction stuff you can read all over the internet.

Probably not. There's way too much going on for me to be engaged. Any good novel has a simple plot that is made more complex because of the characters...not because it encompasses every genre possible!
