how do you feel when you don't get a courtesy wave or nod?
Myself I try not to be attached to it, but at some level, don't you just want that little acknowledgement; like hey...........thanks for acting like a decent human being today?

No, no, I don't mean that is about validation!!......as I mentioned I try not to be attached; meaning I do it unconditionally because it's (to me) the right thing to do, I could care less about validation from an unknown driver or anyone else.

I'm with you on this one. I don't get too traumatized if I don't get the acknowledement. It's not about them.

I think I know what you mean. When you take the effort to let someone in when they're trying to change lanes, you are subconsciously giving up a superior position to that person, because it's something that apparently they need. It's a tiny sacrifice, but still one that most people are unwilling to make.

It's a good thing when that person recognizes that you've given up that position of your own free will, for their benefit. If not, then there is the impression that they feel like they've gotten the better of you. It kind of makes you feel like a chump, doesn't it.

It's a stupid little game that people play while driving, trying to accumulate as many "in front" points that we can. It submerges the goal of getting where we're going because it tickles our basic instincts. It takes an effort to give up the game for the greater good.

Don't worry about it. It shows you just how many people are driving "on auto" . Not thinking at all. Like they had just smoked a doobie or something.
It should scare you more than anything else.
These are the same type that would drive thru a red light or into a braked vehicle(thinking, "that red is a pretty color for the Christmas tree").

I try to cut people a lot of slack all the time. Sometimes it's hard, but you have to remember that some people have gone through lots of trauma & stuff in their lives, and you just never know what any one person may have been through.

If you're being a good person to others, take solace in knowing that sometimes doing the right thing is satisfaction enough without expecting credit for it.

That irritates the daylights out of me. Also when a pedestrian walks out in front of me without even looking, whether they are in acrosswalk or NOT, and strollllllll across like they won't get squashed by my 8000 lb truck that i just LOCKED up my brakes in so I DONT hit their stupid butts! I'm installing train horns in my truck very soon, to teach these folks a little courtesy. I'm more than happy to stop, but for crying out loud, LOOK before you leap! And then GET OUT OF THE WAY! JEEESH!!!!

When someone lets me in front of them or stops to let me go, I always let them know I appreciated their courtesy with a wave and if it's not dark, I mouth the words "Thank you" with a big smile on my face. I have to admit that I get a little annoyed when someone ignores me after I've given them a break by letting them get ahead of me but that doesn't happen very often.

While it is courteous to be that way, it is illegal to let other cars into traffic. We have had numerous accidents in our town when one driver waved another over and they tried to take more lanes than just that one creating a wreck.

I know it feels nice when you do something for someone like that, but be very careful.

I get very annoyed when I am not acknowledged for a courteous act be it driving or just holding a door open for someone

Its nice to be recognised and is part of general etiquette. Sadly we are seeing a lot of ignorant selfish types around these days. Try not to let it bother you as it builds into degrees of road rage feelings.

that's funny i used to get upset when someone didn't acknowledge my kind gesture...and i would speed up just to get in front of them, then slow down. But, now i just chalk it up to Karma! Hoping that one day i will receive the same courtesy that i have displayed countless times.

I don't care if I get a nod or not, I behave the way to I because I know it's the proper way to behave--I don't need validation from other people.
