I plan on using it to make things as a hobby. I don't mind spending a few extra bucks to get something with more options or better performance. What do you recomend? I noticed dewalt has one for about $519 on amazon which was $400 used. Would that be a good one for what i want? I know dewalt is great.

Many manufacturers are making scrollsaws now. Whatever brand you buy, make sure it has a large enough table to handle what you think you will be working with. Some are 16" and some are 20". check the way the blades are held in. Some are straight and some have tee's on the ends. In scrollsawing, you will be removing and reinstalling the blades a lot so make it easy on yourself. Get one with variable speeds for different types of wood.

In my opinion Dewalt makes the best tools, period. I have been using Dewalt for 20 years and the tools will last a long, long time, are very rugged and Dewalt backs up their products. I would also check Ebay. I have bought about 15 tools on Ebay and never had a problem and have got some great deals.
Have fun and be careful! Scroll saws are a lot of fun!
