Its nice of you to imply that our country is disintegrating but in all reality, we are far too intelligent to allow that to happen.

Nice try.

Well, to answer this question, you might first of all consider this fact: The dollar has been propped up for years now because the Chinese buy it, in order to keep it propped up and strong enough so our chucklehead consumers can keep buying all the contaminated pet food and toothpaste and lead paint toys that they produce with their slave labor. Whenever the Chinese get to the point where they have a strong enough middle class to start providing their own markets, they can simply stop buying our dollars and let it drop into total free-fall. This looks like it has already started to happen. Internationally, it has been understood for years that the dollar is artificially propped up and valued at an unrealistic level. We are already seeing international markets switching to the Euro as a replacement for the dollar.

Combine the falling dollar with a shrinking oil supply and the situation starts to look even more drastic. The US economy is more dependent on a cheap oil supply than any other economy in the world. The countries of the European Union, our chief economic rival, have long had the public transportation and other infrastructure necessary to support an economy and workforce that does not drive personal vehicles. If you go to rural areas in America, you find the majority of workers forced to commute long distances in their cars every day. Gas is getting close to $2 a gallon more than it was when Bush came into office and wages have not come close to rising in order to match that. So do the math--Americans are going to see their dollars going a lot less far at the same time as they are going to have to spend substantially more of those dollars heating their homes and trying to get to work.

Then we have the matter of the war in Iraq, which has driven our debt up to unsustainable levels. The administration has basically handed out billions of dollars in no-bid contracts to corporations, and huge percentages of that money can't even be accounted for. If the only problem our country was facing was the debt created by the War in Iraq we would still be in a serious problem for generations. I know some idiots like to say "Well, at least war is good for the economy," but that is just not true, and in this case especially. This war has basically provided the neocons with an excuse to loot the public treasury. If you are not a business partner of Dick Cheney, this war has done nothing to help you financially, and will be hurting you financially, and your children and grandchildren long after you are gone.

I have not even mentioned the fact that, like the entire planet, this country is going to have to confront serious environmental collapse, and that we have turned the majority of the world against us.

No.....when you are paying as much as we are in the UK for petrol you might be though! I think its the equivalent of approx $8.50 a gallon over here although I am not too exact with the litres/gallon conversion. Infrastructure ? someone mentioned. Well okay yes we do have train networks but overcrowded and overpriced. Get on one of our 30 mile tailbacks sometime on the motorways! No you are still big enough not to worry too much USA. Hell, if you go under then we will be sinking with you. U r still appreciated despite the criticism you receive.

Nope, the US is devaluing its own currency so Bush can launch the new North American currency similar to that of the Euro. The new currency will combine Canada, the US and Mexico. If the dollar is too strong then Bush will be blocked from pushing through the Amero, if the dollar is weak on the other hand......

Not yet. Not for awhile. Not in my lifetime. Not in yours.

But keep this in mind - Historically, all great civilizations have come to an end, or have been reduced from power in some way, shape, form or fashion.

Except China.

well people like to say that, but the fact is we're at the hight of our power, we really have no where to go down. i can't really imagine getting even more powerful as a nation unless of course we just start conquering countries. but no, well hang in there probably for another five hundred years, it takes a long time for a country to fall apart.
