The weekend we have just had as regards Pomp & Circumstance? Yes, I do get out and about but this weekend was a bit special. If you cannot get to these events the T.V. is the only way to experience them. I thoroughly enjoyed them and shed a few tears throughout. I am not in my dotage, yet! but what a spectacle!! We are the envy of the world for upholding our traditions so, did you enjoy?

What is boring about the Remembrance of of our war dead and a celebration of their courage and sacrifice? I am with you wholeheartedly. We were in Morrisons at 11.00 and everything stopped for two minutes; no one moved or spoke or shuffled their feet or looked bored or embarrassed. It was every bit as significiant as being at the Senotaph - and I have attended the Senotaph ceremony more than once.

British Ceremonial is without equal and the television captures it superbly. Not even the iconoclastic Blair and his Lurch-like successor have been able to destroy this part of our national heritage.

I am an American and I am proud of the fact that my Mother's
parents both came from Ireland and that my Grandfather
was an Officer in the Confederate (the Good Guys) Army !
All my Grandparents emigrated in the 1800s ---so don't
blame us for the American Revolution !
Sometimes I wish that we had never had an American
Revolution ! I don't see much improvement when I analyze
the two governments today ---at least you have a Free
Medical Plan with Health services for all ! Once when I
was a Tourist in London I was treated for an infection
at the Middlesex Hospital free of charge ---I was impressed
with the Doctors and Nurses in attendance and the courtesy
I was shown . No charges ! I paid a small fee (around $5.00)
for registration only !
! spent quite a bit of time in England during the Queen's
Coronation and thoroughly enjoyed the Changing of the
Guard Ceremony and sundry other exhibitions of "Pomp
and Circumstance "

I am a sucker for parades ,Men in Elaborate Uniforms
marching proudly on Horseback --(being a Texan --I
love horses anyway---but even at the Racetracks here
my favorite part of the races is the Entry of the Horses
Preceded by Trumpet Calls--

I enjoyed the access to the Libraries and Museums---
the freedom of speech debates in Hyde Park (In the
US they would be hosed down or shouted down )
I have but one fault to find with the U.K. please keep
your PMs like Blair at home ! We don't need any more
Ambassadors for War---we have our own homegrown
ones.

I am loyal to my country ---but I would be happier if
we had held on to our Traditions and shown as much
appreciation for Pomp and Circumstance as you
have !
You might think about spreading them around a bit
more---how about Parades for Teachers---and
Environmentalists---( Maybe you could get permission
from the Queen to bring out the Horses the next time
Al Gore comes to town ! ---they'll never do that here !)

I cant forget remembrance day I neither would I want to, as it is my husbands birthday.
We sat and watched the parade, apparently this year was a very large turnout. So well done to all those vets who attended.
And well done to the crowd that turned up. I thought it was very moving to see and hear all the applause that they received when they marched past. Makes you proud to be British. I did enjoy it and somehow this year It seemed to touch me even more, I have no idea why, except perhaps my Son was in the services and has just finished his time. Lucky for us that he did not see any active service so to speak and now He is home with us safe and well. It makes you so grateful and humble. My heart goes out to all the other Mums especially who have lost their Sons and Daughters...Godbless them.
Also Godbless all our service men who are still fighting wars
wherever they are and may they soon be returned home to their families. xx

Veterans day is an important day to my family. My husband, dad, brother and a lot of friends are Vets.
To this day, the Viet Nam memorial makes me cry. I was in H.S. when the war was going on and lost a few friends but now, when I see people at the 'Wall', it still chokes me up.
I once saw a "Traveling Wall", which is a smaller but exact duplicate of the wall and even that was difficult. I had just started dating my current husband and even though I tried my hardest, I cried like a baby.

Having served 35 years in the Royal Navy, I never miss remberance day, in 1967 I was in the cutlass swinging display from HMS Ganges at the festival of remberance at the Albert Hall.
Despite losing many friends from the service, today was enjoyable on a personal basis.

They shall not grow old
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.
I hope I got this right as I did it from memory, I don't know how many times I have heard these words over the years but they still bring a tear to my eye.

I think Brits still have a heart.
Americans have grown cold
