On thursday afternoon I fell over funny on my ankle. On the way back from the GP's ironically. It was sore of course, but now I can not walk at all. I have to take a lot of pain killers just to sleep at night. There is a little bit of swelling but not much.

I have looked on the net but the symptoms of a fracture/sprain/twist are so vague and have simaler symptoms.

I don't want to waste anyones time but I cant walk and I am in a lot of pain.

So..do you think it's worth a trip to AnE or not?

Serious answers only please.

of course you should have it treated; in the meantime elevate it, and put ice on it.

never think you can self medicate and treat what is probably a fracture in the bone;

it can only lead to worse fractures down the line.

if it hurts when you put pressure on it, you have fractured it, or it may just be a sprain. but you need to go to the dr. you dont want to keep walking on a injured ankle. if its to the point you cant even sleep. You have a problem. most of us are not drs here, and I seriously think you should have it looked it. even if it is just sprained they may be able to do something else for you to keep you comfortable.

If it were me, I would go to the emergency room. If you don't feel like a trip to the ER, at least visit your general doctor. They might be able to tell you if you have a sprain, a break or a torn ligament.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

The doctors will x-ray it, and sure you'll know what you actallu did xto it, but either way-sprain or break-you'll end up with an ace bandage around your foot. So just skip the doctor part and pick up a bandage and stay off it. You iced it and elevated it, right?

It's worth the trip, just in case it is broken. If it's not broken, they may still be able to help with stronger pain killers so you can sleep.

I would stay off of it today. Take motrin (ibuprofen). If you can wait until tomorrow, see your GP. If not go to the ER. (If you could wait another day, you wouldn't have that big ER bill)

i think you should go. You never know what could have happened until you go and check it out. Don't think of it as wasting someone's time. Its your life.

good luck. you'll be fine
