pickled veggies contain a lot of vitamin C....could be a reason for the craving.
During my early pregnancy and didn't know I was pregnant, didn't even suspect pregnancy because the doctors had told me I'd never get pg or have children. There must be some truth to the craving, because I had devoured all the pickles, relish, and citrus juice in my fridge. I even stood there drinking from one of those plastic lemons. I never do stuff like that!

Well I love pickles even when I'm not pregnant. But it could be the huge amount of salt that's in them that attracts us. Excessive amounts of salt is one of those "forbidden fruits" so to speak. And naturally, tell someone they can't have something and they're going to want it 10x more. I had a craving early on for pickles. I bought a nice sized jar, but when I got home I couldn't bring myself to eat it.

I've never met a woman who wanted them while pregnant.. my sister wanted tomatoes my other sister wanted an eclair and I crave strawberry banana drinks. They usually say it's because their body is craving salt.. and pickles are great for that.
