Musharraf is only looking out for his own best interests, not ours. He is in it for the MONEY!
The terrorists are everywhere in that area.

well we are calling this emergency rule a 'mistake' because we don't really need musharraf any more....if you guys haven't noticed or don't know that butto is back in the country and she is on the western side.....she was in exile and there was no real western sympathizing party left in pakistan so musharraf got what he wanted from us....but now we can choose and pick and obviously everyone is yelling free elections because it sounds better than a military dictator in power.
what musharraf did was either selfish because we want to stay in power or he really thinks that butto is not good for the country....there are proven cases that butto was corrupt just like many if not all former pakistani leaders.
our government don't really have a preference between musharraf and butto because in either case we will get what we want but i really think that musharraf is halting the free elections because he doesn't want butto in power again which will decimate his country.......the core reason why he over threw navaz shreef and took the control....now he is not going to give the control to butto...his leadership would go in vain. so long story short....no free elections in pakistan until musharraf knows that butto wont win.

I think it's unlikely he's being protected BECAUSE he has Bin Laden. That really is a bit far-fetched. What is FAR more likely is he is being protected because he is pro-US, which is vastly more valuable than a democratic anti-US government. It doesn't matter that Musharraff is a dictator who has WMD has a country riddled with terrorists, who violates endless counts of human rights, has suspended his country's constitution and numerous other things - he's someone the US can count on to do what they tell him, which is why he's protected. If Pakistan had free elections then the people may elect an anti-US president.

If Musharraf were a puppet or protected by President Bush he would not have made the mistakes recently. Seems that he is just a poor leader and needs to be replaced. Bhutto is the only person in the country under the protection of the US.

My view is that yet again the US short sighted foreign policy is going to bite us in the very near future. We gave nuclear weapons to a country run by an unpopular dictator because he pretended to be our ally in the "war on terror". Terrorists are hiding in Pakistan yet we are unable to get them due to the alliance we have with Musharraf. A pathetic dance is done daily endangering American lives.
